    With identity theft it is not an if but when. Something is likely to happen to you and the sooner you notice the fraud the better. I had someone open a Kohl’s card in my name. In my case I got lucky as Kohl’s noticed the fraudulent activity (they only bought giftcards online and after the first purchase they were supposed to show up in store to verify their identity) and notified me. Kohl’s then cancelled the account and got it removed from my credit report. Since then all my credit reports have been frozen and opened only briefly when I needed to get a credit card or loan.
