This arc brings to mind Mark (The Bird) Fidrych of the Detroit Tigers. He pitched 4 outstanding seasons from 1976 to 1980 and had to quit because his arm gave out. The doctors said it was because he had been pitching since he was 8 years old and the damage was done while the child was developing. Shulzâ lesson here is very important.
I wonder if they ever did a Peanuts PSA to distribute among Little Leaguers back then? I donât remember ever seeing one, but I was in rural southern America, nowhere near any âmainstreamâ towns or states.

Snoopyâs reaction in the last panel has the look that he wanted to say âwhiningsâ instead of innings.

Espececially when Charlie Brownâs pitching. I think heâll grow up to work in the sports medicine field.

Striking to see Schultz going into âpublic messageâ mode here. Iâd be curious to know the date of this strip.

Could your strip include the original date the comic was seen in the newspaper?

@davidf42:
Fidrych tore his rotator cuff, which was not diagnosed until years after he quit trying to come back.

Thankfully there are now pitch counts and limits on how often a kid can pitch in Dixie Youth.
