Amen, Newenglandah. Those who oppose universal coverage do so simply by spouting baseless rhetoric and throwing out inflammatory labels like “socialized medicine.” They ignore basic facts such as the success of other nations’ programs, but in our soundbite society facts are of little value.
Despite the shortcomings of big government, I’d much rather chose to put my life in the hands of government than big business. The possibility of “death panels” in a U.S. government-run health care system is nothing more than a scare tactic, but the equivalent of a death panel has long existed in private insurance. It’s known as the pre-existing condition (which can even include, say, turning 50).
The decades long assault on higher education continues to serve that profit center well.
It makes for many, easily manipulated voters who can be puppeted in to voting(with zeal!) against their (and their country’s) own better interests.
You may as well add the oil and gas industry to the Corrupted National Interests Association.

And why on earth is it called health insurance? It should be medical insurance, imo.
For-profit medical insurance companies make money collecting premiums.
Big Pharma, doctors (especially surgeons), medical device manufacturers, all make money providing “services”.

The reason is clear. While most countries view health care access as a human right, here in the U.S, we rever it as a profit center.
