Imagine how much more fun America’s history might have become, if he’d only chosen #3.
Fun Fact… when Lincoln was running for President, he had a rather gaunt appearance.
An 11 year old girl, Grace Bedell, wrote to him suggesting that because his face was so thin, he would look better if he had a beard.
She said the ladies would like it, and make their husbands vote for him (cos of course, they couldn’t vote yet.)
He replied that he didn’t think he should grow a beard…
but then he did…. and when his campaign train stopped in her city he thanked her in person!
He wore it for the (unfortunately shortened) rest of his life.
Too bad there wasn’t a kid who suggested a playful clown hat with squirty flowers, instead of that somber black stovepipe.
LOL… It’s been years, so I just had to look it up again…
This is Lincoln one month after getting the letter from Grace… before that he was clean shaven.
He looks so young!

If only he was wearing a Kevlar hat that day at Fords theater .
