Not always. I am speech deaf. When my new wife and I honeymooned on the Black Sea 15 y ears ago we had an overnight stop at a hotel in in Bucharest with TV in the rooms. The TV advertised close captioning and I thought — this is so great!
I don’t know why, but that reminded me of a time we were watching a movie, either on AMC or IFC, and someone was speaking in a foreign language. The closed caption said, “Speaking in a foreign language”. Thanks for help there.

Most of us do that also so we won’t hear them swearing.

Captions help improve your reading speed, too.

Can you imagine the pandemonium that would ensue if Schyler were introduced to Gabby and MiKe (Grand Ave)?

Once when I was in a museum, a family walked by with the mother scolding the son. I hear the son say “But Mom I already read my book for today.”

Just watch that person waving their hands around while someone is speaking. Great new job.
