According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, the more one’s requirements for sustenance, survival, and safety are met, the more that person can focus on psychological needs, intangible goals, and transcendent experiences. We live in a society where the former are nearly trivial, but the older generations have little experience spending most of their time and energy seeking the latter, and so the younger ones are bound to face frustration as they learn on their own how to find meaningful struggles. In their search for purpose, a lot of them look down and see a world that on average is still not so fortunate, including far too many individuals in their own communities. Kids have always been hardwired to have little tolerance for inequity, so the resulting outrage should not come as a surprise. Odds are pretty good that Zack’s bubble of contentedness will be momentary.

Maybe people are starting to get over themselves. Usually fake outrage anyway.

Save your outrage for those rare times when you really need it for something very important. People who know you will take notice.

Maybe the kids are starting to disbelieve the left leaning public indoctrinators who are paid to feed them outrageous ideologies.
