Charlie Brown and Lucy are standing together. He says to her: "If you're thinking of asking me if I got a lot of valentines, the answer is NO!"<BR><BR> They look at each other. "Did you hear me? NO!! That means I didn't get ANY! None! NOT ONE!" Charlie Brown throws up his hands.<BR><BR> "The answer is NO! Not a single solitary one! None! None! None!"<BR><BR> "I wasn't going to ask you!" Lucy retorts. Charlie Brown closes his eyes.<BR><BR>

So, as it had turned out, or WOULD HAVE turned out, Charlie Brown would have been spared the agony, of Lucy asking him how many valentines he received, just so she could have “rubbed it in,” as she says in Panel 4, she wasn’t even going to ask him. 50 years ago this time-it was on Friday, February 14, 2014, 50 years almost to the day, when this was published, and right after the Beatles’ arrival, here in the States, from England.
