Charlie Brown stands beside Lucy.<BR><BR> Lucy offers, "C'mon, Charlie Brown...I'll hold the football, and you come running up and kick it..I have a surprise for you this year..." Charlie Brown looks at her.<BR><BR> "A surprise? I'll bet she means that she isn't going to pull it away...She knows I'm too smart for her..." Charlie Brown smiles and raises his brows.<BR><BR> "The only one who is going to be surprised is her when she sees how far I kick that ball!" Charlie Brown says ass he walks.<BR><BR> Lucy holds the football as Charlie Brown runs towards her, frowning in concentration.<BR><BR> "AAUGH!" Lucy pulls the football away and Charlie Brown flies up into the air.<BR><BR> WUMP! Charlie Brown lands flat on his back.<BR><BR> Lucy stands above Charlie Brown and announces, "And now for the surprise...would you like to see how that looked on instant replay?" She gestures to the recording video equipment behind her.<BR><BR>

I think I have it figured out. Charlie Brown is addicted to trying to kick the ball. How else could you explain his abuse inducing behaviour? There must be some rush involved in running up, swinging the leg and flying through the air that outweighs the inevitable WUMP that happens each time. It must be an addiction.

I love how in the second panel he says “Oh no….not again!” as if he knows exactly what’s about to happen.
