I grew up in a small town back in the days when doctors still made house calls. In fact, way back in the 40s - after World War II, the country doctor who had patients in our rural community went out to a farm house to deliver a baby during a blizzard. The next day, he walked over to my grandmother’s farm and my uncles had to hitch up their team of horses in order to drag the doctor’s car out of the snowbank! I think he charged them something like $25 for coming out in the blizzard to deliver that baby!

If you look closely in panel 2, you can see the Doc watching Jeff through the window; he probably guessed what Jeff wanted and got his answer ready.

My twin sisters (11 yrs older than I) were delivered at home by a vet. He doubled as a vet and a doctor.
