Whatever you may or may not like about the story du jour, it’s Mr. Scancarelli’s to tell, not ours. He may have had this arc plotted out months in advance, or may be making it up as he goes along; either way, he’s the storyteller. Our role is gather around the fire and listen, and take what we may from it. If you want to be the storyteller, go get a pencil and practice your drawing, but let the rest of us enjoy this story in peace.
Sorry, but all the carping lately has just gotten to me.
Fangirl, Axe-Grinder, YellowPeeps, et al, you seem to have it right! I doubt I will ever understand why some folks write just to complain, rather then moving on elsewhere.
Through “OneGreatFamily.com” I along with others have managed to trace one lineage back to Noah, while in another lineage deadending at only 3 generations. Frustrating, yet fun and rewarding when you look some of the names up through Wikipedia to find some of your direct ancestors recorded in History…good or bad. Yup, more than one “Skinner” in there as well. Oh well. Still fun though.
Norm’s logic has always been almost as amusing as the strip… I guess we can all agree that no one needs to read anything, whether the strip or the comments (or the comments about the comments, etc.), yet we all tend to read the things that are in front of us (a basic tenet of advertisers and spammers, and trolls). If the constant carping were on another site entirely, say a yahoo group, I would easily avoid it by not joining (how is that group doing anyway?). Different opinions of course make for horse-racing. But anyone who stands in the middle of the crowd of fans gathered in Mr. Scancarelli’s “house” solely to blow his single discordant note… well that person could “always just read the [strips] that agree with [his or her] opinion” of what a comic should be… and he or she would be ok, too.
Not to beat a dead horse, racing or otherwise (how’s that for a mixed metaphor?), here’s the thing, I think, that’s been getting to me:
If you’re paying or about to pay for something, a person (critic) who has experienced it already can give you useful information, and has a good reason to express negative opinions on it.
We are not paying for this. It is a gift. I guess I’m just surprised by how many people seem to be unable to take it in the spirit that it’s offered. I’m grateful to be able to read GA again. I missed it for many years.
Too much coffee, too little sleep…as today’s chief whiney-baby I now withdraw and will not carp further.

I think genealogy is a fine subject for GA. And I agree with Fangirl… lead on, Jim!

At the risk of repeating myself - I still like this story arc.

And as for genealogy, I have spent years on mine/ours; to where I have over 4,000 names and hundred of stories. It is fascinating. But she is right…
It is a time-consuming, frustrating, exercise in futility!!! Especially when you keep running into dead ends.

Yes, often the problem with checking out the family tree is you find fewer seated and many hanging from it.
