What’s he talking about? Humans can break the sound barrier and see in total darkness – they just can’t use eyes and legs directly, the hands and cerebral cortex have to get involved.
Here’s what will happen when cats get opposable thumbs:

My cats seem to have opposable brains.
My neighbor’s dogs, on the other hand, seem to have no brains at all.
(Sorry, Dino, just kidding. I love dogs too.)
Yes, humans can reason. The problem is that we don’t like where our reason takes us and so we prefer to act like animals or worse (cf. the last half of Romans 1).
Our color vision beats the daylights out of yours though, Hobbes. And though I wouldn’t call this a virtue, we’re driving you big cats extinct, speed, night vision, agility and all.
Brains and opposable thumbs. Yep, that and the fact we don’t like being eaten by the likes of you.
Reminds me of C.S. Lewis in Out of the Silent Planet, when Ransom is translating Weston’s speech into true language–we see it in plain English–and how threadbare most of our claims to civilization look.
It has been well said that “Dogs have masters; cats have staff.” I count it a privilege to serve as staff for a red tabby with a wild side. A mini-Hobbes.
At the present time I share my home with five cats. Their personalities are as divers as those of any group of humans could be. All the way from bold and bullying Black Bart to timid Sara, they are individuals. And, they are both endlessly irritating and wonderfully endearing.
But I have to agree with Dino-1. My dogs have always been more like my “kids”, real involved, caring members of the family and I would rather see myself as a dog than a cat.
My cat is lazy well fed and listen to me when ever he feels like it.
But the vet takes my wishes into consideration if a illness is fatal or not .
So my cat is not as powerful as he thinks.
And I do not let him out till the birds are fed.
Hobbes you got a great friend but do not push to hard.
First of all, I like cats and have lived with quite a few, but don’t malign dogs, just because you have met a few dumb ones.
When is the last time you met a working sheep cat, a seeing eye cat, a rescue cat or a bomb sniffing cat?
Why? Cats are inclined to be solitary animals. Dogs are inclined to be social animals.
There are exceptions, of course. Most of us have known or heard of a cat who routinely brought home food for its family. My mom’s cat was always bringing home mice or birds.

Calvin forgot to mention night vision goggles. I understand that the hearing in wolves, for example, goes from below earthquake to nearly ultrasonic, and have a sense of smell about 400 times better than a human, and have night vision that goes nearly up into the infra-red. At the age of 67, I would be happy with a tenth of what their senses are capable of. On the other hand, they have attitudes that I’m glad I don’t have, at least generally speaking….
Hey, dimeadance, why shouldn’t posters be allowed to reference things they find interesting from their experiences, and be respected for it, whether from real life, a tv show, a youtube video, a cartoon, or a book (such as the bible)? Why not share your own interesting comments and references, without putting others down?
Calvin probably could have come up with good arguments – he is smart enough, but he talked himself into a corner because of his sensitivity to the failures of mankind (especially war, which he has questioned before).

Not me!!!!! My dog is just about the smartest little thing in the whole world and utterly spoiled rotten! She’s absolutely “livin’ the dream” around here and if there’s any such thing as reincarnation, then I definitely want to come back as her and experience that exact same dream, day in and day out!
