Despite what the movies and TV shows depict, most gun fights had lots of bullets and very little damage because guns are hard to aim and most cowboys had no skill in it. Plus, they were too busy hiding to aim carefully. I read an article about one fight that involved an incredible amounts of shots with almost no injuries. Newspapers from the time talked about the huge number of bullet casings on the ground and the minor injuries.
