A bit more context on the first telephone message, for those who don’t already know—Alexander Graham Bell and his assistant, Watson, were testing the prototype telephone while in separate rooms. They had already gotten the prototype telephone to the point it could transmit sound, but not clearly enough to understand what was being said, so now they were testing for clarity. The idea with the message was that Bell would know it was transmitting clearly if Watson did indeed “come here” from the other room.
Maybe not that classy, at least by T-Rex’s standards, but at least it is practical.
