Various translation websites render “Katzenjammer” as “bad luck,” “depression,” “the blues,” and even “hangover.” Literally it seems to mean “cats wailing.” Are there any native speakers of German here who could tell us whether people actually use the word in daily speech, and what they use it to mean?
