Mona realizes she is the reason she is living her life as a miserable malcontent with only a stuffed bunny for companionship.. Her usual attempts at rationalization have failed. All that’s left is the soul-crushing thought that there is nobody and nothing to pin her faults on. Of course, trying to change and become a better person will never work because:
1) She already tried that and her rationalizations made sure that didn’t take.
2) Silly rabbit, this is a comic strip.
This does reduce the chance that Mona would have to get rid of Smokey in order to become a better person, but if she runs to Smokey for solace…
