As a Canadian Elly gets 15 weeks maternity leave and up to 35 weeks parental leave. After 5 months she’s tired of sitting around the house. Staying at home most of the time reminds me of something. What could it be?

I think it’s a personal family decision. And nobody else’s business.

    Lynn’s Comments:

The honest truth here; I loved my babies…but I desperately needed adult company. Other moms wrote in to say I was not alone.

As Jean-Paul Sartre once said, “Choose, or be in bad faith.” One can always change the choice, but it’s the responsibility of the individual to choose. Talking to a baby about it does some good, so do it. The mind cannot distinguish actions taken in the mind and reality. Ellie left it out, and that’s all that’s needed.

Oddly enough, even when your work is play, management manages to get in the way.

I don’t relate to Elly’s whine. Never was I happier than the privilege of being a stay-at-home wife and mom, and doing my OWN raising of my boys. It was a privilege, I appreciated. I know many mother’s must work to make ends meet, and many mother’s just love their job. I was not one of them, though some people made me defend myself at the time.

I’m so old that maternity leave wasn’t even a consideration. Teachers were to leave the classroom before they started showing. Unpaid for however long and often not guaranteed having a job after giving birth. I was the first teacher in the district where we taught to get to stay in the classroom until my doctor and I decided it was time to stay home, mainly because I was vocal and unrelenting ( think loud) in protesting unfair/prejudicial treatment. It worked for me and for every teacher after me who was expecting.
