Heh, I’m reminded of a particular gag from the old Clifford animated series.
So the main plot is that two of Clifford’s friends have had an argument and are now hanging out by themselves on opposite sides of town, sending Clifford back and forth as a messenger as he tries to resolve the argument. Each time Clifford crosses town, he passes by a fountain in the square where a worker is busily smoothing fresh cement to be a new segment of the sidewalk.
Whenever the worker hears Cliff bounding up, he tries to cover the cement he has been smoothing to protect it. Clifford, of course, jumps clear over the area, but the ground shaking invariably knocks the poor guy into the wet cement, forcing him to start over with the smoothing.
This happens a few times, and by the final time Clifford passes through, the worker has picked up on this pattern, and just shrugs “To heck with it” and backflops into the cement on his own, right before the Clifford gets there. Only this time, Clifford actually notices him, and being the kind and helpful sort he is, stops to pick the guy up out of the cement, dip him into the fountain to wash him off, and even smooth the cement with his oversized paw, before continuing on his way.
The worker waves “Thank you” to Clifford as the dog leaves, and then turns around…and steps right into the wet cement again.

I think that guy would rather Marmaduke got his footprints in the cement. It would be a lot easier to fix.
