My aunt would have an accident while starting to cook so my uncle would take her out to dinner. She was a hoot!

RTFM. Or in this case, the labels on the clothing and the detergent and any other chemicals you put in the machine and then the control panel on the machine. Pro Tip: To make the clothing last longer decrease the amount of softener by 50% and wash the clothes one choice cooler and one choice more delicate than it says on the label. And hang up to dry out of the sun if you have that option, otherwise like the wash, one choice cooler and about 25% shorter time. YMMV

The husband of a friend of mine did this with every job he didn’t want to do. Before long, he didn’t have to do any type of housework. I’m guessing he thought he was so smart.
