How would you like to go up in the air, up in the Sky so blue, oh I do think it’s a wonderful thing, ever a child can do, up in the air and over the wall, so I can see so wide, rivers and trees and flowers and things, over the country side…..“Robert Louis Stevenson” ( To my recollection, it may not be word for word but it’s what I use to recite to my kids when they were on their swing set, flying so high, the back legs of the set would go up in the air…gasp! ) LOL
Jāņi is a traditional (originally pre-Xian) summer-solstice festival very widely celebrated with song and dance in Latvia and by the Latvian diaspora around the world.
For the festival, girls and women make and wear complex floral wreath-crowns like that (if made of 27 different kinds of flowers, grasses, and herbs, such crowns traditionally have magical protective powers), while boys and men wear oak-leaf wreath-crowns to celebrate the strength and importance of trees, particularly oak trees.
