    Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not pass “Go.” Do not collect $200.

    I can never finish a game of Monopoly with my sister. When she lands on Boardwalk or Park Place, she gets mad and knocks all the pieces off the board.

    LOL @ Jor-El. My mother is like that. She hates the game all-together now though.

    We played Monopoly growing up, and so my boys learned to play from their uncles. I’d rather play games that are strictly skill, and don’t take so long to finish. My sons & I have been playing “Connect 4” ever since the 4th, when we got it out while company was here. Great game - all skill, easy rules, but very challenging if you play with someone else who is skilled.

    I knew some folks who used to issure calculators to all players with which electronic banking was utilized, adding or subtracting from the ‘accounts’…..the bank, of course , had a calculator with a big account too….. this way, we all learned the means of electronic banking and no paper money was exchanged sure made it easier to set up and clean up! and it was still fun to draw a community chest card and find out that we won a beauty contest and got 10 dollars!

    I won’t play Pente with my wife any more…talk about a skilled player! When we’re in the mood for a board game, we play an old Avalon Hill game called “Rail Baron”. It’s sort of like Monopoly, but with historical U.S. railroads.

    It’s only $50 to get out of jail unless you have a “get out of jail free” card. I don’t remember you being able to get out of jail by selling your property…

    krusher: you could get out of jail by rolling doubles, using the card or paying $50. If you didn’t roll doulbes by your 3rd turn, you did have to pay. If no cash, would have to mortgage or sell houses/property to pay the fine.

    He IS entitled to his $200, for parkin’ on GO.

    That should just about cover the fine………

    @bald:

    “…we used to make up different rules as we played, it was hilarious…”

    So did we!

    Monopoly takes so long to play that we simply divided the bank into equal parts at the start of the game.

    We then shuffled the cards and dealt them out.

    After some haggling and trading of properties we began the game.

    There was no need for a banker, and the game didn’t last forever.

    I much preferred playing Clue.
