Throw in some barley! We used to call barley in our soup “freckles.”

Awwww! That’s a really big cauldron of soup! Growing up Witches Brew was totally a different recipe! When we were sick, we mixed honey, lemon and a shot of whisky to help our ailments, sore throat, cough, etc. ONE TABLESPOON AT A TIME!

“I didn’t scrub the carrots before dicing them, since the potion will come to boil later! Mwahhahahaha!”

The thing we did for a cold, when I was a child, was called “hot pink lemonade”:

Peel a bunch of oranges, a grapefruit, some lemons, and cut them up in large chunks. Also get some zest from the peel.

Add some water, and sugar to taste, then simmer on the stove until the fruit is all mushy and juice came out.

Cut up a jar of maraschino cherries and dump them, plus the juice, in.

    Serve to child hot.
