The Aurora Borealis of Brrowr III had pushed very far south for the summer period. Brrowr III was located in a very loose star cluster (very, very loose) 3000 rrurs from home.
Narf walked along a street looking around. He had been here almost 100 complete rotations of Brrowr III (about 12 weeks in native notation). He had moved in with a native family. He had been surprised how easy it had all been at first. Understanding came later, of course, but it was very puzzling at first. The natives seemed to overlook Narf’s presence, even as different as he was. I mean, Narf had no tail, and had short ears, but it turned out to be somewhat common.
When Narf was landing, he was amazed by the lack of a defensive dome. This caused Narf to be suspicious – maybe it was somehow hidden, or cloaked, but that turned out to not be the case. It was simply primitive technology that was not yet up to defensive domes.
Narf had come down in what was called a “corn field”. It surrounded the native town. Narf had worked out the name – Iola. The line up of the streets was straight and angular. He’d had to cross a bridge over a stream to enter the town itself.
When he had first seen what he had thought was a native, he dashed over to do the standard greeting as dictated by the Prime Directive. But the native didn’t seem to understand anything he said, let alone the Prime Directive greeting. Then Narf had seen a native carrying a stick. The stick was smooth and had feathers on one end. Narf thought, “Yes! Tool using!”
Later, Narf learned it was a “paint brush”. And, he learned that who he thought were natives, weren’t. Instead, it was the Arrros.
On Narf’s planet, the Arrros had not evolved to intelligence. Here on Brrowr III, they had!
While his kind had not evolved to intelligence, but remained in a primitive state.
He finally came to a native family dwelling (“house” in Arrro). He dashed up to the dwelling and pawed on the door. The door opened and an Arrro looked out, and then down, and said, “Fido! We wondered where you had gone. Come on in and get warm, doggy.”
Yes… random evolutionary chance had disguised Narf. He fit right in, and would have no trouble completing his mission.

You can probably make up for it by coming back with a big ol’ space bone.

It’s hard to get a proper sniff through a fish bowl. I’m sure the cats would appreciate the effort.

Shouldn’t that helmet be all fogged up?
