This time, a little over 10 years ago, Richard posted a blog entry regarding this strip:

    http://richardspooralmanac.blogspot.com/2010/10/todays-cul-de-sac-for-like-last-two.html

as well as the 14 dailies that ended 10/30. Since Richard posted it after all strips had run, I’m doing that here as well. The Sunday that ran when this originally did was moved ahead about a month in the rerun. Its blog entry also included several dailies and will be pointed to when those dailies complete.

Petey’s pumpkin looks like a Peanuts character. Maybe their house is one of the ones where Charlie Brown got a rock?

Petey, you should base it on “The Scream”.

Am I allowed 2 posts? We actually have a tradition in our family called “Tossing of the pumpkins.” After Thanksgiving, we take all of our pumpkins and toss them into the creek.

I thought Petey’s Jack O’Lantern symbolized Al Gore. You need to read Richard’s Poor Almanac on GoComics to make sense of that. Or maybe it evokes the horror of our dehumanized world blah blah blah. Or boring

Nightmare Freddy is the only one that can really carve a pumpkin…

Last year, Petey’s jack-o-lantern was an uncarved pumpkin, in a cardboard box. It was a scathing commentary on our consumer culture.

I like the way Alice does that old Baroque Art repoussoir thing in the last panel. I learn so much from every strip Richard created (and every one of them is funny, too)….

Too late info for this year, but it turns out that if you carve the bottom off rather than the top to get at the innards it can stay on your porch a lot longer before it starts to rot.
