It astounds me how many players in basketball (Knicks) and hockey (Rangers) will give their right arm and their first-born just so they can say they live in New York even though they will be killed on income taxes and never have a chance of winning a championship. The irony is further pressed in the Rangers case because, in the 50 years of coexistence with the Islanders, the latter has been the more successful franchise.
I read an article a good while back about why players want to play in New York. The writer had done some research on it and according to his findings a player could double his income from most other places just by playing in New York. If it was for the Yankees it was even more. This is due to the added availability of such things as commercials and speaking engagements. He said that athletes in New York were treated differently than in most other places in terms of popularity for personal appearances or similar engagements. He made the comparison of a baseball player being introduced as a former Major League baseball player vs. being introduced as a former New York Yankee. After reading the article I don’t know if he was right or not but what he said made sense.
The owners are stupid, with their stupid rules against commenting on players, they only penalize themselves. Who doesn’t think with social media and agents talking that the players aren’t kibitzing all the time?

It’s pretty clear that Bill Hinds is bitter about this whole ordeal.
