Yes, The whole house was decorated, banisters, outside boughs, twinkle lights, wreaths, bows, trees, you name it we had it…LOL We all felt joy when finished and to just admire it all for a few months. All decorations went up just before Thanksgiving and came down after the Orthodox Christmas, in January. Then life was restored to normal, but seemed “bare” for a while. With this pandemic, people in my neighborhood put Christmas decorations up at Halloween! It’s ok! Whatever it takes to get through this dark time in our lives. As long as everyone is ok, that’s the most important to be thankful for.
We have a tree that we encourage our 7yo twins to help decorate. I also wrap all the stairs/banisters with gold garland and place the cards we get in the spindles. I enjoy Christmas, but Thanksgiving is my FAV! Hope all of you had a beautiful holiday that extends into the “biggies” in Dec. <3
We haven’t decorated for a few years. Since we retired, we always spend a week or two at our daughter’s house. We have pine trees between our house and the neighbor’s house. They put lights up around the trees and that is festive enough.
I had a very dysfunctional childhood and did not really get into the holiday until I met my second wife. And now I can’t stop. We use white icicle lights outside under the eaves but placed back to not be hurt by any real icicles we might get. Multi-colored small led lights around the interior of house and on the tree. With 5 cats the tree decorations end about 1 meter above the floor and we use an old black and red wool felt poodle skirt from my mother’s estate around the bottom. Garlands and lights up the stairs and a few more scattered about the house. And automatic timers on all the lights to turn them on at 5:15 PM and off at 10:15 PM. With solar panels and a home battery the cost is negligible.
Hello everyone! I’ve been married 3 years. The first year we decorated a day after thanksgiving, last year was mid-Nov and this year was Nov 2. We do an artificial tree (colored lights) with painted steel ornaments/a few pinecone ornaments/mini non-breakable ornaments, colored lights around our stair banisters, white lights on the front porch and I also do a little village on fake snow with a holiday table runner covering the rest of the little table it’s on! I have a Christmas canvas I put in the living room, stockings on nails by the storage room, and a wooden snowman by the village. Also I have a little sled and a dollar store soldier on the bookshelf, a candle in the window and a stuffed dog in a different window (it has a christmas ribbon around it’s neck). Sometimes we do those cheap candle lights in the upstairs windows. On top of that we do a lighted garland across the front door and around the entry to the living room, and a winter themed mitten front door hanging decoration, and a plaid electric blanket. It’s a small house so it’s a lot for that little bit of space! I still want holiday themed throw pillows for our couch that would be great!

I like serving “gelty” pleasures during Hanukkah/Chanukah.

I go out to the park, pull a blanket over myself, cover myself in peanuts, and then wait for the squirrels to get close.

Since I live alone, I put up a small tree with fiber optic lights and small ornaments.
