I was lucky as a kid, always had 20-20 vision so it was not until I was in my 40s that I needed to get readers. First it was my sis who is 14 months older than me (happy 57 BTW Susan) who got them in 2009, I kind of laughed and she said, “Just you wait Lil Bro” and sure enough in 2010 I was wearing my first 1.0 Foster Grant frameless. Since then I have progressed to the 2.0 lenses and might be nearing the jump to 2.5. My oldest sister who is a decade older than me now uses 3.5 lenses that look like something that NASA might have installed on the Hubble back in the ’90s so I know where my future lies…. I could not believe how easy it was to read small print with those first glasses, I probably could have got them a few years earlier to be honest. I would be literally blind without them now.

Wait a minute, is she nearsighted or farsighted? She couldn’t see the chalkboard but she also can’t read large text that’s four inches from her face. If her sight is THAT messed up that she can’t tell the huge letter on top is an E, glasses wouldn’t solve the problem. She’d be legally blind.

It must be a seasonal thing. Those of us who read the classic Luann comics here just went through the “braces” arc.

In high school, a friend went to a faith healer who cast aside her glasses, laid hands on her face, and proclaimed, “Rose, you can see! God has blessed you. Never use glasses again.” Poor thing bumped into people and lockers for a week before finally buying a new pair.

My grandson if farsighted in one eye and near sighted in the other, so I guess anything can happen.
