Experience and knowledge is why they made you a manager and pay you the ā€˜bigā€™ money.

The better you are the less managing you need to do.

Managing good employees who know their jobs is mostly communication

Managing some people is more like hearding cats

I only have to manage 2 other people and thatā€™s only when my manager goes on vacation

5 weeks a year, not too bad

Sometimes being a manager is like being a fertilizer spreader. You take all the manure from up above and spread it as evenly as possible.

With this strip ā€“ sometimes it is hard to tell what is sarcasm and what is sincere. Iā€™ve been a manager for some time in my career at different levels. When I am talking with people who have never been managers it can be a bit tricky to talk about that work in a way that makes sense, and often they donā€™t really want to know ā€“ they want to just rail at ā€œthe manā€.

A good manager will work for her/his subordinates as a bulldozer to clear the way for them to do their jobs. Among other things.
