Some bad guys had gotten their hands on kryptonite, and he wanted them to think it was no longer his weakness, so they’d figure it was useless and get rid of it. So, he made up a new weakness. The ploy worked, but he took a lot of flak when he had to refuse to continue endorsing the consumption of healthful, wholesome milk!
