Our last dog (a 90+ lb male bull terrier – shepherd – brown Lab mix) behaved like this, only with real raccoons and opossums. He was on a 50-foot chain, that clipped to a pulley on a 100-foot braided wire strung between two trees. Raccoons and possums just couldn’t get it through their heads that he could travel further (about 200 feet) than the length of the chain. He didn’t give them more than one chance to learn from making that mistake.
Seriously, I once had a mouse run up my arm while the cat and I were chasing it around the house. I was much more afraid of what the cat would do to me if he caught it there. Fortunately, the mouse jumped off and shortly ran into one of my “tunnel traps”.
