And weren’t the walls further away in the newer stadiums?

I just saw an old clip of Donald Glover’s standup, talking about when Obama was running for president he was ‘a black candidate’ – when he got elected he was suddenly ‘mixed’.

I was a Willie Mays fan when I was a kid, and I told anyone who would listen that Willie would have broken Ruth’s record first if he hadn’t missed almost two full seasons while serving in the military. Looking back now, that might have been true, but Willie certainly wouldn’t have gone on to hit 755 like Hank Aaron did. I did come around to truly appreciating Hank’s achievement and his skills, especially after learning about all the hate he had to endure en route to setting the record. I wasn’t aware of all that when I was a kid.

Hank Aaron had number 44 on his shirt and as I looked him up, there was even a picture with this number on his bat.

    Obama was the 44th president.

    Nice coincident!

Thank god I live the way I do. Hank Aaron was a beast at baseball. Obama was our first black president (and one of the greatest presidents in history, imo). Blues/Jazz/R&B/Rock (ESPECIALLY rock!!)/Hip-Hop is where some of the best music can be found. Serena and Venus Williams are the greatest women’s tennis players in history. If I’m wrong, I don’t want to be right.

For those who have actually read Henry Aaron’s comments, know that he did not like being called “Hank”. He would say, My name is Henry. You see that Mr. Knight was aware of that.

What saddens me the most is that conversations comparing people based on how much melatonin their skin produces as the main reason to compare them in the first place even take place. It shows just how far society still has to go, especially in the US where it is really extreme. Beneath it all is the fact that many children still learn from adults that anything that makes a person different is to be used to discriminate and even hate someone instead of being something completely normal and that everyone is “different” in their own way, which should be celebrated. I have travelled the world enough to know that what makes people “different” is also what makes people special and wonderful. It is this huge amount of diversity that can make life so great to begin with.

By the way, for those of you who do not yet know this: the whole concept of different human “races” is nothing more than a social construct meant to divide, sow hatred and to hold power over other people. Genetically, scientifically, biologically we are all one human species.
