Apparently, some of the slain ARE forgotten. Scott appears to have made the same mistake as Dick Cheney in thinking that only Christians have sacrificed their lives fighting for our country.

I guess those who died fighting for freedom of religion were only fighting for one particular religion.

And, yes, I see those two badly drawn 5 pointed stars out there … if that’s supposed to be a Star of David you’ve failed on all counts.

In my meager travels I have stopped by many Battlefields and skirmishes plus Civil War Memorial Cemeteries which include soldiers from WWI & II, Korea, Viet-Nam and more recent conflicts mostly in TX, MS, TN & GA. in each one I have felt a most sorrowful loss and depression.

Thank You for your dedication. and Thank you, Mr. Stantis.

I had an Uncle that was a P.O.W. during most of World WarII in the Paciffic front. Another Uncle fought in Anzio. To degrade their efforts in serving their country show what a small minded person you are drjt33. Even though WWII was the reason the United States was able to get out of the depression how many millions people were liberated? My Uncles were fortunate enough to live long lives after the war was over.

As for getting my head out of my butt, at least there are more brains there than in your head.

Joe, look more closely. There are three 6 pointed stars (lowest point is not visible against the white uprights), and a badly drawn 5 pointed star that could either be the Muslim symbol or the Medal of Honor on the grave of a recipient with no listed religious preference.

The VA currently recognized 38 symbols for grave markers http://www.cem.va.gov/hm/hmemb.asp

Thank you, Scott. I was touched. Those of us who have served, are serving or will serve understand concepts that some may never grasp. One of those “concepts” is free speech. No matter how vile or naive those views may be.

The fact that we are able to voice our opinions even though we might disagree speaks for itself.

    THANK-YOU VETERANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with drjt33: ‘not one of them died to protect our freedoms’; brave as their self-sacrifice was (when it was a self-sacrifice), that's not why wars are fought. If drjt33's reference to ‘capitalism’ offends you, then try the libertarians at http://www.antiwar.com/index1234.html (or, heck, Pat Buchanan).

I also agree with Radical-Knight: ‘a most sorrowful loss and depression’. Memorial Day (like Veterans Day) is always a day of great sadness for me.

To Mr. Scott Stantis: Sunday, the 24th. of May, 2009, “Prickly City” strip was the finest tribute I have ever seen to the men and women who gave their lives to defend freedom, both here and abroad. And who seem to be less and less remembered and appreciated for what they did and gave in doing that. Thank you sincerely!

One of my favorite comics. I have the original from the May 24th 2009 newspaper posted on my cubicle wall.
