A millennia old Asian cultural cornerstone is unacceptable here in the US. The older Asian generation must adapt and assimilate. The old ways must change.
Yet other ethnic/race/cultural “traditions” far more destructive to women are absolutely off limits from criticism. The misogynistic attitudes in “rap” culture are not to be questioned. The horrific abuses of women within Islamic culture, even here in the US are rarely ever criticized.
I understand that Lela Lee is speaking from within. And undoubtedly is strongly supported from without. This is to be applauded and commended.
Now we need to see the same initiative from women “of color”, women of faith, women from other national and cultural backgrounds with a history oppressing women.
Have I missed it? Can you show me where strong black women, strong Muslim women, are decrying their mistreatment? Can you show me the strong widespread mainstream support for these strong women?
