On Svengoolie night, I watch alone.

Long ago a local art house showed The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), also starring the dashing and quite cancelable Mr Flynn with Olivia De H_ & The Adventures of Don Juan (1948) with the timeless Viveca Lindfors as a double feature, especially if they needed to make enough cash to cover payroll that week. Both of them with the same virtues as Captain Blood but in glorious 3 strip Technicolor, which most of you have never seen or likely will never see and that is such a loss. Well worth staying up late for.

It is an excellent movie. There are so many great b&w films. Reine does not know what she’s missing.

They make good movies in colour?

I’m with Norm on this one. Captain Blood is an excellent movie, though my favourite Errol Flynn movie is Robin Hood. My all time favourite movie is Casablanca. I get the same reaction from friends if they are visiting and i go to put on one of my old movies. They think The Avengers and other superhero movies are the epitome of great cinema. They don’t realize how thin the plot and characters are as they are more interested in the special effects.

Watch Snyder’s “Justice League “ or “Endgame” again.

Hey, my wife and I enjoyed that movie lots . . the score, wow!

This kind of hits home. My recently deceased wife wouldn’t “ever” even look at a black and white movie. Then 5 years ago her mother had to move in with us do to dementia and my wife found out that the movies her mother liked were mostly b/w and she found out that they weren’t half bad. Now unfortunately it is one of the many “triggers” that gets to me.

For harmony’s sake, you might want to compromise and add some classic colored movies in the mix on movie night….

I hear ya. What gets me is people won’t even try to watch them.

I don’t watch them often, but I’m open, but my last GF wouldn’t watch any subtitled movie. But that’s the best way to watch Das Boot, Kinski’s Nosferatu (saw in theatre), Kurosawa movies…it adds authenticity and requires attention. That said, I prefer anime dubbed.

Those old swashbucklers were great. They would never work in today’s cinema.

A great classic! I love B&W movies.

The composer for the score wasn’t a slouch either.

Well, at least the actors had to really try and act, since they didn’t have very good special effects, unlike now where the movie is the special effects without the interference of the the so called actors.
