I always thought that Milo was referring to a Peanuts comic with this one… He mentons the “dog” (snoopy) and then says, “and then this cat comes up” which I assume means Franklin, who was the coolest “cat” in Charlie Brown’s neighborhood.
Maybe Mr Breathed was having trouble with his publisher at the time. When these strips came out originally, many times the publishers/newspapers pulled ones that they deemed to be “offensive”. Hard to believe now in the Twitter/text world.
