Ballard Street by Jerry Van Amerongen for July 24, 2008

Jerry continues to baffle and amuse those who “get it.” His use of line is perfection and his composition just makes the exaggerated figures that much more interesting. We all have seen “Allison” in life. And she is a bit odd.

It’s obvious that Beauty and the Basset will be much more entertaining than any Disney imitation.

mastagni and margueritem, we still get it, ten years later.

I think the men of Ballard Street are quite happy to be spared the conversation of Allison and her friends.

This could also be “Basset and the Beast” right. I mean they are both bassets. Cleo, with her purplie eye color, would win over any Basset, beast or not.

♫Who’ll take the woman with the skinny legs?♪ Um, which one would that be? This is Ballard Street, after all.

    Hello all!

Glad to see some of you are already here….

    Hi Farside! Hi Dennis!

    Oh Marg! You’re back!

I wanted to get here sooner, to greet you all…. but it was a bit hard to get disentangled from the….er… I mean….

kinda hard to see my watch, walking with….

    ooops… I mean… never mind.

any how…. I’m here now… and as you can see….

    we’re already commenting on the

July 24th  2018 “CLEO and COMPANY”

Which we all read on Sherpa

    http://www.comicssherpa.com/site/feature?uc_comic=cscwy

Come on…. I want to walk a little fast so none of the ladies notices that I … um

    sorry…. never mind.

    They think they’re soooo…. important and sneaky….

    I look… you can _see_them…. even if they can’t see you…..

And they didn’t even notice when I …. OH!

    Nothing.

    Nothing at all.

Shall we head towards the Tiki?

They won’t be following us because they’re going up t….

    Anyway…. a beautiful poster, isn’t it.

A lovely, artsy French basset film….

hope this release is subtitled, and hasn’t been dubbed.

Then we can hear Josette Dog in her own voice, even if we need to read the French translation.

She was quite the looker in her day.

And Jean Mongrel wasn’t bad, once he was out of the Beast costume.

That reminds me…. Dennis… I was thinking the same thing….. that it could be “Basset and the Beast” .

It’s kind of the Beautiful Basset and the Beastly Basset…. but that’s too long and tongue-twisterish..

    But once again…. that’s NOT Cleo….

As I said… that’s the lovely Josette Dog…. a French movie star, in her day….. and now much older than Cleo.

And Jean Mongrel is the Beast.

Nor is this an animated version…. The Walt Dogney one was years later.

This is a live action film…. a masterpiece of the French basset cinema…

which was, however, crudely copied by a French human…

    as you can see:

When I first saw today’s poster, I scrolled down from the dark, dreary almost scary basset, to our bright, beautiful star with the purplie eyeshadow. Now, that’s the Cleo I love.
