As regards Stephen & Arlene, part of me was relieved, as I scrolled down to see the caption, that Arlene was not suffering some sort of catastrophic medical event. But the other part of me thinks “Stephen! Come on! If she is as mobile as she appears to be (I don’t see a wheelchair), this is way over the top. Your good nature is being abused. Unless you’re into that sort of thing.”
At first I thought Stephen was picking up Arlene’s chair a bit, and turning it to a better position….
Then I realised there was no chair.
Now I’m wondering… is he lifting her briefly, to swing her a bit in one light-catching direction or another, and set her down again….
Or is he holding her up at that angle for the entire time that she’s reading??
If it’s the latter, it does seem a bit much….
Though, you know… I don’t want to criticise a spouse who can be so wonderfully… um… and literally… supportive.
And I don’t want to say Arlene is demanding to much, because we don’t know what extraordinary things she might do for him.
That’s the thing about Ballard Street couples.
You see a few who don’t seem to get along… but for the most part, the match-ups seem contented and enduring.
Spouses are incredibly tolerant and forebearing …
putting up with a partner who dresses like a possum, ruins the furniture with pulleys, or has any number of odd behaviors or hobbies… sometimes even joining in.

I think we are in for a series of scary posters as we approach Halloween. Here is Stel’s Tuesday contribution:

An excellent poster from the past(or), Stel. I remember the snarling face of Jack Nicholhound being particularly effective.

Arlene should learn to help herself.

Heeere’s Rexxxie !!”
Brrrrr…. chills up my spine…. again!
Gee, thanks, Stel!
You know, I saw a human version of this poster, too…
They’ve made yet another pathetic attempt to copy a basset movie.
Good luck, I say.

They should have guessed it wouldn’t have the same scare value….
Silly human thinks HIS puny fangs are as terrifying as Jack Nicholhound’s??
Yeah, riiight….
I mean… I couldn’t even get a good look at the basset poster (sorry, Stel), cos I was already hiding behind the couch.
Somebody tell me how it turns out.
No… not the movie. Are you crazy?
I’m never going to see that. I won’t care how it turns out because I won’t know how it begins.
I mean the poster.

I do agree that this poster is pretty scary. Why does it remind me of Cujo?
