    He reminds me of Robert Paul Smith, who wrote “Where Did You Go? Out What Did You Do? Nothing.” which is about his boyhood where he did exactly that.

    They told us to get lost, so we did. Unfortunately for them, we kept getting found. And returned.

    I would wander in for food and drink from time to time during the day. Of course out where I lived there were no street lights, so headed home when it started getting dark. Headed for the nearest neighbours if someone’s cattle stampeded so i could get high enough to be safe. Only happened 2 or 3 times before i was big enough to be helping round them up.

    We didn’t have streetlights. And sometimes I slept in past sunup. But yeah, it was out the door and play (or work when the folks caught me) outside until dark.
