Oh no!! Elly missed the opportunity to lecture her daughter about the value of money!! Whatever will she do?:
1. Run after Elizabeth to stop her and make her listen to that lecture.
2. Run after Elizabeth with a long list of chores that she has to accomplish in order to earn that money she just got from Elly.
3. Rejoice that she has contributed a little to her daughter’s fun afternoon with her friend and be delighted that her daughter seems to be so well-balanced (in spite of the way it looks like she is about to fall over in Panel 1).
4. Remember that she likes it better when the kids are out of the house and realize it was worth the money for the quiet.
5. Remember that she has a little daughter named April who is nowhere in sight.
Come on Ella, you just came back from being away, Elizabeth was there for you taking care of April, just give her a big hug, a little dough and tell her you love her with a big thanks.
If I have money to share, I share it. To me it’s fun and makes me happy. I would LOVE to have that happen to me when I was a kid. A given dime sent me over the moon, I could do so much with it. I never feel guilt if I give my bounty away and expect nothing in return.

It’s just ten dollars at the most. It’s not your giving her a fifty.

Considering how much Elizabeth helps with April, she’s earned that money.

I wonder how often parents second guess themselves like this? sI know how hard and complicated raising children is.

So in panel 1, is that a legless ghost Liz wants to go to the store with? I can see why the ghost looks unhappy. I would too if my legs disappeared.

Number 4 — wow, just wow. Nothing like bribing kids to shut up and go away, huh? SMH

I think Elly’s final comment is so true, and not even just about parenting. We are almost always our own worst critics.

Hey! At least she’s not bickering with Mike. That’s a start, right?
