That sign marks the spot where “color” was first introduced to the Cul de Sac community.

Replace it with a marker which reads: “In Memory of One of the Greatest Cartoonists”

We’d be on a road trip and my dad would, out of the blue, start over-the-top laughing like he was insane. Then as we’d pass by the marker, he’d point and, deadpan, say, “Hysterical Point.”

So Cul de Sac doesn’t have a town historian? Or a librarian?

On family road trips (long ago, when I was the kid in the car) we’d sometimes stop for an intriguing-looking Historical Marker. Typically, one got a bit of local lore that only a resident of that place could (possibly) love. Sometimes, the vandals won, though, especially in the case of “shoot me!” upright signs like Cul de Sac’s desecrated original….
