Jon: Leave that chicken leg alone, Garfield. It's mine.
*smack!*
*WHACK!*
*SPLAT!*
Jon: It's things like this that tend to diminish my enthusiasm for owning a cat.
Jon has his own sandwich here, and is presenting the chicken leg on a separate plate, tempting Garf with the forbidden fruit, and then immediately turns his back. This lends credence to the theory that cartoonist Jon Arbuckle is a masochist and purposefully antagonizes Garfield so he can enjoy the physical violence he receives, further showing his lack of respect for affirmative consent, as Garfield neither consents to, nor understands he is participating in Jon’s kink. Keep on Garfin’!

Have you notice how Jon always seems to have a chicken leg on him. Sometimes a whole chicken. This guy is pretty much a cat himself.

Oh, and… What enthusiasm for owning a cat?! Garfield has been treating him bad from the first comic strip.
