    Perhaps sadistic psychological treatment like this by his parents is what drove cartoonist Jon Arbuckle to masochism. He continues the cycle of abuse by goading Garfield into committing violence against him, because leaving his parents left a hole he needs filled with any other kind of abuse. This has warped Garfield into a violent creature who can only be his true self in private with Pookie. Keep on Garfin’!
