Andy: I suspect another thing that's really helped "Dilbert" succeed connercially is its three panel format. Roger: How is that the advantage? Andy: So many of the other strips I see are four panels. That means Scott Adams gets an instant 33-percent productivity jump on his competitors. This is probably how he has the time for all those lucrative side projects. I'll bet any four-panel cartoonists realizing this must be beating their heads on their desks right about now. Not literally of course.

Actually, 4 panels give room for more conversation before the punchline, thus making it easier to come up with jokes. Or is that just me?

It is interesting to read this nowadays as Dilbert’s creator has fallen from grace due to joining the Maga bandwagon.
