It amazes me that we are all on twitter and Facebook. By 'we' I mean adults. We're adults, right? But emotionally we're a culture of seven-year-olds. Have you ever had that moment when you're updating your status... and you realize that every status update is just a variation on a single request. And you post it and you just wait it out. All comments are then read as: 'we see you, Marc' 'we love you, Marc' 'we care that you are there, Marc.' Twitter and Facebook are my teachno-parents, sating the child in me. This is all too true and compelling. We’ve become a civilization [and I use that term loosely] of hardcore phone addicts though the offenders loudly reject it as a problem no less serious than excessive indulgence of drugs, food, gambling etc. Somehow, it has become socially acceptable for people to spend much if not most of their waking hours staring at their phones fearing they might miss the latest obscure post on one or more of the various social media feeds. My personal pet peeve is waiting to use a machine at the gym while some inconsiderate moron occupies it without using it with eyes glued to their phone. And I dare not ask him or her to please finish and free it up because it will inevitably invoke an angry response effectively shifting the blame for their inconsideration to me.
