Western culture has things a little backwards right now. We think that if we had every comfort available to us… INCOMING HEAD OFFICE …we’d be happy. We equate comfort with happiness. EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR CONGRATULATIONS ENJOY YOUR NEW MERCEDES BENZ And now we’re so comfortable we’re miserable. CLICK There’s no struggle in our lives. No sense of adventure. We get in a car. We get in an elevator. It all comes easy. DING! What I’ve found is that I’m never more alive than when I’m pushing. And I’m in pain. And I’m struggling for high achievement. And in that struggle… …there’s a magic. - Dean Karnazes Ultramarathon runner, former marketing executive

Nursing fits that bill. There’s always something new to learn, skills to improve, specialties to explore.

Good. It seems Dean is doing something better than marketing.

I wonder how much his old marketing life still supports his new life? I expect it takes a lot of money to be able to support yourself as an ultramarathoner.

When you have found what fits your soul, work is play. . . If you can’t find it in your existing job, keep searching, you deserve better. It may not actually be a “Job,” as in the strip. But there is something out there that will match your need, if you have the courage to find it.
I found mine after I retired and started working with the homeless. Now I am making a difference with people who have nothing, amid the filth, the drugs, the needles, the poo; by providing food, water, clothing, and the knowledge that people care. Finding what matches your soul can take you to strange and wonderful places. Amazingly there are others who feel the same. We have a “High Performing Team,” some who go on the street, others who support the street team my making sandwiches, getting fruit, gathering clothing. . . All are volunteers. That such people exist confirms my faith in humanity. Be A Light In The Darkness, And The Darkness Will Never Win.

I never understood excercise, it is enherently selfish. The whole idea of expending effort to not produce something is an anathema to me. You could have built a house, fed the poor, educated children. Such a waste.
