For a radio piece, I once calculated how far you could drive to get a lottery ticket without the chances of being injured or killed on the way being greater than your chance of winning. I can’t remember the details but it was easily walkable and you’d be better off doing it that way.

The only time I buy lottery tickets and/or scratchers is at Christmas to use as stocking stuffers.
