I suppose they are solitary, strictly speaking, but some 40 years ago I was at the Washington, D.C. zoo in early winter. The weather wasn’t great, and there seemed to be no animals in any of the outdoor enclosures. A bit of a bummer after a long drive. But then, as we stumped about in the freezing temperatures, we came across a leafless tree with about ten red pandas draped all over it, all apparently asleep. A most interesting sight.
