As a writer, I sometimes come up with ideas in the middle of the night, and, when I get out of bed in the morning i’d find that I’ve forgotten them. I put a pad and pencil on my night table so I could write my “bright ideas” down and read them in the morning when I got up. I tried it a few times and found that either I could not read what I had scibbled or that it made no sense.

Too late, you thought of it, got distracted by writing it, and it’s gone.

Put the “brilliant idea” immediately at the bottom of the page before getting involved in the preamble and forgetting the important part.
