Lotteries and other betting schemes are simply a form of taxation reserved for the mathematically challenged.

A lottery is a form of a retirement system that never seems reachable.

My ‘Pappy” once told me; “sonny, if you WANT to double your money - FOLD IT IN HALF and stick it BACK in your pocket!”

    (Pssst! - it WORKS too!)

It is said that the odds of one getting killed on the way to buy a lottery ticket , are better than the odds of winning the lottery (er….provided one buys a ticket)

wicky, many years ago for a humerous essay I calculated that if you drove something like a half mile to buy a lottery ticket in New York you were more likely to be killed or injured than to win, but that it didn’t really matter because there was no need to drive so far to get one

There was a song by Kay Kaiser in the 1940s called “Horses Don’t Bet on People.”

I used to listen to that song on the radio when I was a teenager. Doctor Demento played it all the time.

If birds can bet on horses, I guess its a good dis that horses don’t bid on birds.

I find my chances of winning the lottery are the same whether I buy a ticket or not.

Richardelguru, thank you and I reckon it matters where one lives, what you say is true, and out here on the left coast if I want a ticket I gotta drive about five miles, but I could be kicked by a mule.

Shoe never wears a shirt because he lost them all!

I sure wish Common Sense was! (It is no longer common and what IS common is not sense!)

    I also miss Dr. Demento.

Guilden_NL - I agree! It’s a 4-year catastrophe based upon knotheads who “just wanted to see what would happen”. Now we’re seeing - as we rush headlong into Big Brother on steroids!!

p.s. - I always prefer to get my information from the horses’ mouth - instead of the other end of the horse…

Rush fans: the economy is turning around. Stock market is going up and layoffs have slowed down for the first time since the huge monthly tally when Bush started the collapse. There’s more to life than what you see on Fox News.
