That line has been paraphrased by parents everywhere.

Because it’s Ladies before Gentlemen ;-)

Because you soothe tension better than I do?

The same way that it’s “your children” when they get in trouble?

Marmaduke must be HER dog – most of the time.

My loving wife and I used to play that game all the time, your son, your cat, your dog. She died in March so can’t do that anymore.

I guess it depends on who he comes running to when he’s in deep trouble.

Whose dog it is, is usually determine by who finds out about what trouble was caused first. That works for the Kids also.
