The earliest version of this strip indicated that Heart, Dean and Kat lived on Spruce Street in the Old City section of Philadelphia. If that is still the case, Heart would certainly be aware of the fact that the very first “selfie” was taken in her neighborhood in 1839, by a pioneering photographer named Robert Cornelius.
Cornelius sat in front of his camera for at least 10, and probably 15 minutes (the exposure time wasn’t exactly quick), before exposing his self-portrait. A replica now graces his headstone. A historic marker now stands outside of the site of that first selfie(8th & Market, outside of the Burger King)! It goes without saying that Heart would not be able to sit stillfor 10 to 15 minutes.

Maybe ask someone to take your photo? Headshot doesn’t necessarily mean “selfie”, right?

“Professional” refers to the photographer, not the subject, Heart.

1st selfie was a young fellow named “Narcissus” who fell in love with his own reflection in a pool(he died staring at his reflection)

And Heart is going to need a better agent than Instagram.
